ABOUT US

At Lakeland Radon Testing & Mitigation, we take Radon seriously!  We aim to test as many homes and commercial buildings as possible to give our customers the peace of mind that their indoor air quality  is not at dangerous levels of Radon.  If the levels of Radon are high,  we can reduce the levels of Radon to acceptable levels, with life saving Radon mitigation equipment.  We are a mobile service business with our home base near St Paul, Alberta and service the North East portion of Alberta, commonly referred to the Lakeland district.   We service Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, Smoky Lake, Vermillion, Lloydminster, St Paul, Alberta, Canada and all points in between.

what is radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the soil under your home.  It is an invisible, odourless and tasteless gas resulting from the radioactive decay of uranium and radium deep within the earth.

What are the health effects of radon?

Because Radon is a radioactive gas, high levels of Radon in your home is known to be the second highest contributor to lung cancer next to smoking.  Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and significantly increases the risk in smokers.  Health Canada estimates that some 3,200 Canadians die from Radon induced lung cancer each year!

HOW DOES RADON enter MY HOME?

Radon enters your home mostly through openings and cracks in your concrete floors and exposed soil in crawlspaces.  The negative air pressure in your home actually sucks soil gasses into your home and Radon can accumulate to dangerously high levels!

ARE THERE AREAS WITH HIGH RADON?

Yes, a good portion of Alberta and Saskatchewan have high potential for Radon, based on the geological structure of the earth, but any home in Canada can have high levels of Radon.  It depends more on the pathways for the gas to enter your home.  Your neighbor might have high levels of Radon and you may not.  Your home needs to be tested to be sure; and preferably for 3 months during the heating season when Radon levels are usually higher!    Refer to the Radon map link below:
